Tal como J Dilla, Vhils também vê o mundo de uma forma muito particular. E o mundo vê-o a si, e às suas obras, com um total deslumbramento que se tem traduzido num generalizado e merecido aplauso. Um pouco por todo o planeta. Quando decidimos que o segundo festival Rimas e Batidas seria consagrado à memória de J Dilla, no ano em que se completa uma década sobre o seu desaparecimento, resolvemos lançar alguns desafios: aos artistas que constam no cartaz do festival, claro, mas também a Vhils.
O Rimas e Batidas contactou depois Ma Dukes, mãe de J Dilla e administradora da J Dilla Foundation, e informou-a da nossa vontade de lhe prestar homenagem e de, em seu nome, contribuir para uma causa meritória. E é isso que vamos fazer.
Vhils cedeu-nos esta peça – de uma série limitada a apenas cinco exemplares – com as dimensões 50×70 cm e os proveitos do leilão que vamos realizar através da nossa página de Facebook serão entregues, em nome de J Dilla, à Associação dos Doentes com Lupus em Portugal.
Pretendemos, obviamente, ser transparentes nesta operação. O leilão decorrerá até à meia noite de 18 de Abril próximo, véspera do arranque do nosso festival, e a peça de Vhils será entregue ao vencedor na tarde de dia 20, nas novas instalações do seu espaço Underdogs, ali bem perto do Cais Sodré, onde a nossa celebração decorre. O vencedor do leilão será depois convidado a testemunhar a entrega do valor conseguido no leilão à instituição em causa e todos os documentos que atestem a seriedade do gesto serão tornados públicos.
Qualquer pessoa pode obviamente participar neste leilão e fazer a sua oferta, comprometendo-se, claro, a honrar o compromisso público que assumirá ao participar. O Rimas e Batidas apela por isso mesmo à participação de todos: é uma causa nobre que não merece discussão e uma forma que julgamos totalmente digna de homenagear a memória de J Dilla.
Just like J Dilla, Portuguese artist Vhils sees the world in a peculiar fashion. And the world sees him and his work – fully committed – with widespread applause and world recognition. When we decided that the second edition of the Rimas e Batidas (Rhymes and Beats) Festival would be a celebration of the life work and homage to the late great J Dilla, we set a challenge to the artists that will perform in the Festival and also to Vhils.
We contacted Ma Dukes, J Dilla´s mother and head of the J Dilla Foundation to inform that we would want to pay tribute to her a son and at the same time contribute towards a charitable organization. And this is exactly what we are going to do.
Vhils agreed to come up with and give up for auction an extremely limited – only 5 copies in existence – serigraphy of J Dilla. Measuring 50x70cm, this piece will be auctioned via our Facebook page and all of the proceeds will be handed over to the Portuguese Lupus Patients Association.
Transparency is one our trademarks: the auction will take place until midnight of the 18th of April – the day before our festival kick-starts – and the winning bidder will be given the artwork on the 20th of April in the new HQ of the Underdogs Gallery, situated in Cais do Sodré in Lisbon. The winner will then be invited to witness the handover of the amount gathered to the Association and all documents inherent to this charitable transaction will be made public.
The auction is open to everyone who wishes to honour the public commitment of the cause and therefore Rimas e Batidas calls on all interested parties to take part in this: The cause is just and of undeniable interest and a way we believe is right to pay tribute to the memory of J Dilla.
